My journey in rehabilitation began over five decades ago, shaped as much by personal experience as by formal training. Living with a disability ( Congenital upper extremity amputee and of short stature ) gave me a perspective that no textbook could have provided, I attended grammar and high school at Spaulding School of Chicago that had only disabled students. For twelve years I hung out with students that represented every physical and mental challenge that existed. Together we learned creative ways to deal with our physical and mental challenges.

After school I attended Lathrop Boys Club (located in Lathrop Homes Projects) where I learned how to manage the reactions of my friends and neighbors to my obvious physical differences. I was mainstreamed before it became law to do so. Combining both kinds of real-life experiences gave me insights that could only come from such experiences. Earning my master's in rehabilitation strengthened my resolve to drive real change for people like me and for elderly striving to stay independent.

Over fifty years, I have owned and operated multi-million dollar rehabilitation companies. Learning what truly makes a difference for communities is so often overlooked or misunderstood. I have witnessed the many barriers that people with disabilities and older adults face, not just in receiving quality support, but also in finding providers who genuinely understand.

That is why I started HiramZayas.com, LLC - as a promise to give back and to stand beside others on similar journeys. By reinvesting up to 80% of all profits directly into the disability and elder communities, my mission reaches far beyond offering products or services; it's about building opportunities, nurturing independence, and uplifting lives nationwide.
